Koh House preserves the tradition of Japanese incense — Kōdō, the "way of fragrance" — through carefully sourced incense sticks, kneaded incense, and rare aromatic woods.

A 1,400-year tradition

Japanese incense culture began with the arrival of Buddhism in the 6th century. Aromatic wood was treasured by emperors and shoguns; by the Muromachi era it had been codified into Kōdō, the "way of fragrance," practiced at Ashikaga Yoshimasa's Silver Pavilion. Even today, incense rises in shrines, tea rooms, and home altars across Japan.
